Maneuverability

The F-3 Fighter

Military planes serve a variety of functions, including

cargo transport, observation duties, training, and

combat. Combat planes, such as the F-3 Fighter of

the Royal Air Force of Great Britain (shown here),

are generally designed to be fast, strong, and highly

maneuverable.

Blue Angels

Teams such as the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels

perform breathtaking maneuvers with aerobatic

planes. Great precision and concentration are

required to fly the jets so close together at such

high speeds; only well-trained pilots attempt it,

and accidents still occur. Here, the Blue Angels

fly four-across in a tight formation.
